More about Balenciaga

Hailing from the quaint fishing village of Getaria in Spain's Basque country, Cristóbal Balenciaga's early fascination with fashion was nurtured by his mother, a seamstress for the village's stylish women. By age 12, he apprenticed with a tailor in San Sebastian, leading to the opening of his first boutique, 'Eisa,' in 1917.

Despite setbacks like the Spanish Civil War and economic challenges, Balenciaga's resilience led him to Paris, where he established the legendary Maison de Balenciaga in 1937. Although he closed his Parisian maison in 1968, his legacy endured, revived by a new generation of designers at the end of the 20th century.

Today, Balenciaga is celebrated for its couture and as a luxury icon in accessories, especially shoes and handbags, equated to the pinnacle of fashion luxury. Through years of change, the essence of Balenciaga's design philosophy remains, with each piece distinguished by its quality and distinctive touch.
